Important security fix in WordPress 2.5.1

WordPress 2.5.1

WordPress 2.5.1 includes over 70 bug fixes, and a security fix encompassing 3 files. You can download only the three files addressing the security fix (includes/pluggable.php), (includes/media.php) and (admin/media.php), or the entire release.

The security fix addresses a vulnerability which isn’t public as of the release date, but is expected to be soon. WordPress recommends you upgrade immediately.

How can there be 70 bug fixes in a brand new WordPress? Did Microsoft write this one?

Jonny, that actually drew a chuckle from me.

WordPress developers were working on 2.6 even before 2.5 was released—it’s the nature of the business. And often, developers of all varieties release software with known bugs to be fixed at a later.

Someone once said…

The six billion people of the world can be divided into two groups:

1. People who know why every good software company ships products with known bugs, and…
2. People who don’t.

Those of us in group 1 tend to forget what life was like before our youthful optimism was spoiled by reality. Sometimes we encounter a person in group 2, perhaps a new hire on the team or even a customer. They are shocked that any software company would ever ship a product before every last bug is fixed.

Thanks for dropping by.
